OFF ROAD TO ‘MANDERLAY’

“DOGVILLE” star Nicole Kidman has done an about-face on her promise to shoot the next two films in Lars von Trier’s American-set trilogy, “U, S and A.”

The Danish director’s film company, Zentropa Productions, announced yesterday it was casting for a new leading lady for the second film, “Manderlay.”

“Owing to Nicole Kidman and Lars von Trier‘s commitments to other projects, both parties regret that they will be unable to coordinate their respective schedules” to collaborate on “Manderlay,” Zentropa said in a statement.

During a press conference following the world premiere of “Dogville” at the Cannes Film Festival in May, Kidman told reporters she would reprise the role of Grace for two more films.

“I like the idea of playing the same character through a trilogy. I’ve never done it before,” the flame-haired Oscar winner said at the time.
