Co-op City residents were breathing a huge sigh of relief yesterday after a strike was averted when building maintenance workers hammered out a last-minute deal with management.
Local 32BJ, which represents the workers, had vowed to walk off the job at 8 a.m. yesterday if a deal wasn’t reached with the Riverbay Corp., which runs the massive Bronx housing complex.
The new, four-year deal calls for wage increases in each year of the contract, officials from both sides said. The deal also includes a boost in health benefits.
