CLASH ACTS

It’s been a rough stretch for punk fans, with the recent deaths of Joey and Dee Dee Ramone, and then the sudden December passing of Joe Strummer.

The Clash frontman’s scowl and growl helped define Seventies punk and spawn a generation of rockers who adopted the group’s DIY ethic.

At Continental (25 Third Ave., [212] 529-6924) tonight, local products like Detox Darlings, the Hypertonics and Push pay tribute to the great one with a tribute show ($5, 8 p.m.). The night is being headlined by the Bullys, a band that knows about loss – their guitarist, John Heffernan, a firefighter, died on 9/11.

Meanwhile, at Meow Mix (269 E. Houston, [212] 254-0688), the semi-monthly rock tribute night, Fraggle Rock, will also be the site of a Strummer homage. The lineup includes Gina, of the band Bantam (formerly of the Lunachicks) and downtown fixture Justin Bond ($10, 11 p.m.).
