Elderly man stabbed in Queens

A knife-wielding man went berserk Monday and fatally stabbed a senior citizen on the street in Queens, authorities said.

The 22-year-old attempted to rob the 69-year-old victim on Roosevelt Avenue and Elmhurst Avenue at 1:20 p.m., when he stabbed the man multiple times and ran off. Plain clothes cops saw the suspect running and tackled him down, cops said.

The owner of a nearby tea shop witnessed the attack and recognized the victim as a regular customer. “He was a gentleman,” said Edwin Dejesus. “It’s a shame.”

Witnesses said the knife was seven to eight inches long and was used to stab the victim twice in the throat and in his side and chest.

It was not immediately known whether or not the two men knew each other or what they were arguing about.
Charges against the stabber are pending, cops said.
