Von Miller can’t wait to get back on to the field, but a six-game suspension may come first — as well as a visit to the witness stand.

The Broncos All-Pro linebacker, who was suspended last month for testing positive for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie year in 2011, is now being listed as a potential witness for the prosecution in a death-penalty trial for a man accused of killing five people in Denver last year, according to 9 News in Colorado.

Miller’s name appears, among dozens of others, on the witness list as an acquaintance of a friend of the defendant, Dexter Lewis, who is accused of stabbing five victims following a robbery of a bar, which was then set on fire.

While the Broncos are still waiting to learn the exact length of Miller’s suspension, a team spokeman told USA TODAY that the team had been aware for awhile that Miller could be called as a witness in the case.

“He has no direct involvment in the case,” said Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth.

Last week, Miller was arrested for failing to appear in court because of traffic violations.
