INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

METS: While Wheeler has been inconsistent at times since his debut on June 18, the prized right-hander has shown every bit of the promise the Mets had hoped for in his past two outings. In 12 ¹/ 3 innings, Wheeler has struck out 16 while allowing just two runs, leading the Mets to two victories.

BRAVES: After being sidelined for 13 months following elbow ligament replacement surgery, Beachy returned and allowed seven runs in 3 ²/3 innings on July 29. Since then, though, he has made three starts and has lowered his ERA in each one. He has recorded three quality starts in a row, and the Braves are yet to lose a start he has made this season.

STAT SO?

METS: As impressive as Wheeler has been in flashes this season, he hasn’t finished starts particularly well. He has pitched into the seventh inning on three occasions and holds a 15.43 ERA and .500 batting average-against in the inning.

BRAVES: The right-handed Beachy has held righties to a .208 batting average this season, but lefties have teed off against him, hitting at a .306 clip.
