Brady back in action for Pats

Tom Brady participated fully in the Patriots’ walk-through yesterday in Foxborough, Mass. The quarterback jogged with other players at the start. He dropped back normally to throw passes. And he didn’t limp.

An alarming situation — Brady had left Wednesday’s practice with an apparent left knee injury — was just a false alarm. It still is not known if he will play in tonight against the Buccaneers, though ESPN reported sources said he will.

“I’m good,” Brady said as he walked off the practice field after removing the black brace he wore during the workout. “You can all go home.”

SAINTS: Linebacker Jonathan Vilma has traveled to Philadelphia to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, but how long he’ll be sidelined remains unclear, coach Sean Payton said.

STEELERS: A day after he moved atop the depth chart at running back, rookie Le’Veon Bell aggravated a left knee injury during a training camp practice.

COWBOYS: Guard Ron Leary was sent home for more examinations on a right knee that probably needs surgery, but coach Jason Garrett said the team didn’t consider the injury serious.

BROWNS: Running back Montario Hardesty had arthroscopic knee surgery and likely will miss at least the first two regular-season games.

BRONCOS: All-Pro linebacker Von Miller missed the final day of training camp to address his looming suspension for violating the NFL’s drug-abuse policy.

LABOR: The “final hurdle” to testing players for human growth hormone this season apparently involves the NFL and union agreeing on whether commissioner Roger Goodell will hear appeals for violations other than a positive test, according to a person who works for the league.

Preseason games

Eagles 14, Panthers 9

Michael Vick was nearly flawless, Nick Foles looked sharp and the Eagles’ quarterback competition remains close. Vick and Foles each led touchdown drives last night in Philadelphia.

Ravens 27, Falcons 23

In Baltimore, Matt Ryan threw for 97 yards and a touchdown in four series, and the Falcons limited the Ravens’ starting offense to three first downs in the first half before the backups pulled out the victory with 20 fourth-quarter points.

Browns 24, Lions 6

In Cleveland, Brandon Weeden threw two touchdown passes to Jordan Cameron, leading the Browns over the Lions, who played without superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who missed the game with a bruised knee. Browns rookie linebacker Barkevious Mingo was hospitalized with a bruised lung.

Bears 33, Chargers 28

In Chicago, Jay Cutler looked shaky again, but the Bears defense made up for it, harassing Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers early on and setting the tone for the preseason victory.
