Stand up to Spitzer, Cuomo

The Issue: Whether Gov. Cuomo should come out against Eliot Spitzer in the race for comptroller.

***

Since his election, Gov. Cuomo has proven one thing — he can always be counted on to do, or not do, what’s best for Cuomo (“It’s Embarassing,” Editorial, Aug. 14).

Fracking is a safe, proven money-maker and job-creator that the people of New York desperately need and deserve.

But Cuomo will continue to dither and oppose it at all costs because he can’t afford to distress his leftist base if he hopes to run for president in 2016.

Cuomo will probably endorse Scott Stringer for comptroller, not because he’s the most qualified, least disgraced candidate, which the people of New York City need and deserve, but because Cuomo cannot afford having Client 9 yapping at his heels in the run-up to 2016 and ruining his presidential fantasies.

Memo to voters: That’s the type of governance and non-representation you get when you give the left a death grip on every election.

It seems as though our governor is more worried about how badly Eliot Spitzer’s possible election as city comptroller would hurt him than he is about a criminal who will have control over people’s pension money.

Why is he waiting to speak? Is he hoping the people will be smart enough not to vote on this loser? That way, he can stand in the middle again and not commit himself — the sign of a real leader.

Take charge, Governor, and grow a spine. That’s what the people want in their elected officials, though we haven’t had that in some time.
