RANGERS’ RED LIGHT: I’M RETIRED

Sal “Red Light” Messina, the Rangers’ radio color voice for the last 29 years, has called it quits.

He recently told MSG management that with the exception of a few selected games, he has retired from the radio booth. No replacement has been named.

Messina became a Rangers radio regular following a brief career as the goaltender for the minor-league Long Island Ducks. He also, years ago, was a non-dressing backup Ranger goalie, in the days when teams dressed only one. But he remains a gracious, good-humored man whose voice was synonymous with hockey in this town.
