SLAY GETS CHANCE TO DO MORE THAN CLAP

NET NOTES

Tamar Slay will get to do more than clap.

Slay, the athletic 24-year-old swingman lost by the Nets to Charlotte in the expansion draft, has started the Bobcats’ first three preseason games. And he welcomes the opportunity – even if it means growing pains,

lots of growing pains, along the way.

“I had two great years here and I thank the Nets for that,” Slay said before last night’s Nets-Bobcats game at the Meadowlands. “It’s going to be difficult because I’m coming from a team that was expected to win and now I’m in a situation that is growing from the ground up. But at least the league will see me play and see

what I can do. In New Jersey, I was one of the guys who sat on the bench and clapped.”

Slay admitted it was “shocking” the way the Nets were dismantled over the summer, losing Kenyon Martin, Kerry Kittles, Rodney Rogers and Lucious Harris, largely due to financial concerns.

“It really is shocking to see what they did,” Slay said. “I learned so much from Jason Kidd, Kerry and Kenyon. I’m just glad I now have the opportunity to play.”
