Broncos-Jaguars likely biggest Vegas line ever

We are less than two weeks away from a mismatch that could produce the largest point spread in modern-day NFL history.

That’s what two prominent Las Vegas insiders are saying about the Oct. 13 game in Denver between the Broncos and Jaguars, where the spread could reach four touchdowns – or more.

“I said [on Sunday] I would post minus-28, which would be the largest point spread in modern day,” said Jay Kornegay, sports book director for the LVH Sports Book at the Las Vegas Hilton. “The sports books in Las Vegas are getting crushed each week on the Jaguars and Broncos games. Now, it’s forming a perfect storm. One of the worst teams ever will be facing one of the better teams we’ve seen in recent years in their backyard.

“After thinking about it overnight, I might even consider being on the high side of minus-28 and was thinking more minus-29 or minus-30.”

Kevin Bradley, sports book manager for Bovada.lv, said he is headed in that direction as well after the Broncos crushed the Eagles, 52-20, and the Jaguars were destroyed at home by the Colts, 37-3, on Sunday.

“With the Broncos rolling once again yesterday and the Jags getting blown out, I’ve been asked numerous times already what the projected Week 6 spread will be when Denver hosts Jacksonville,” Bradley said.

“Before yesterday I would have said it would be three touchdowns but considering yesterday’s results, the fact that Seattle easily covered 19.5 at home against Jacksonville [in Week 3], and how our bettors have been pounding Denver every week and betting against the Jags like it is free money, this spread is looking closer to four touchdowns.

“Barring any injuries or something very dramatic occurring,” Bradley continued, “I would expect this to be the biggest spread we have ever posted.”

The largest spread in modern NFL history is generally accepted to be Steelers as 27-point favorites over the Buccaneers in Tampa on Dec. 5, 1976. The Steelers easily covered in a 42-0 romp.
