‘Glee’ will end after six seasons

“Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy says the next sixth season of the Fox musical dramedy will be its last.

“The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story,” he told reporters at a Paley Center event Wednesday night, according to TV Line.

Murphy said the death of star Cory Monteith, who plays Finn Hudson, forced him to come up with a different ending. “When a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now,” he told TV Line.

Monteith was written out of the series in the Oct. 10 tribute episode “The Quarterback.”

Fox renewed “Glee” for a fifth and sixth season last April, and Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly indicated last August that the series likely wouldn’t continue beyond that.

“I would not anticipate it,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Never say never, but there’s two very clear arcs to get to the end and conclude.”

Fox declined to comment on Thursday.
