Justin Tuck: JPP’s issues are mental

Jason Pierre-Paul on Thursday declined to speak with the media, saying he was under the weather and not feeling great.

Unfortunately for Pierre-Paul, he cannot let his play do the talking for him. Coming off back surgery, he’s still stuck on the one sack he got in the season opener. The dynamic plays that filled his 2011 season have been hard to find.

“I honestly think it’s more mental than it is physical with JPP at this point,’’ teammate Justin Tuck said. “He really wants to go out there and play well, and when it hasn’t happened for him I think he takes it hard. The people around him have to keep him built up. It ain’t going his way right now. He just needs to find a way, like all of us, to make a play. It hasn’t rolled his way yet, but I haven’t seen him down in the dumps, I’ve seen him come out and work every day. It has to pick up for him. At least that’s what history says, right?’’

CB Terrell Thomas on the possibility of falling to 0-7: “It sucks right now to know that if we lose the next game we could be making plans for December in October. That’s not a good feeling.” … The Giants are getting healthier as they prepare for Monday night’s game against the Vikings. C David Baas, who has missed the past three games with a neck injury, returned to practice on a limited basis. He was joined by CB Jayron Hosley (hamstring). CB Corey Webster, out the last four games with a strained groin, will return “real slow but will work’’ in practice, coach Tom Coughlin said. Webster was limited, as was RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring), S Cooper Taylor (shoulder) and TE Adrien Robinson (foot). … RB David Wilson (neck) already has been ruled out for the game.

RB Andre Brown, on short-term injured reserve, was on the field working in individual drills for the first time. Brown broke a bone in his left leg in the final preseason game and is eligible to return for the Nov. 10 game against the Raiders. “It’s an eternity, but I really feel that way, that I’m going to be ready in Week 10,” Brown said. … DT Markus Kuhn, on the physically unable to perform list following last year’s knee surgery, also did individual drills for the first time. The Giants have a three-week window to either activate Kuhn or else keep him on PUP for the remainder of the season. “I don’t really think about my knee, feel strong, very positive first day back,’’ Kuhn said.

RB Adrian Peterson (hamstring) was limited in practice for the Vikings. Starting safety Harrison Smith (toe) has been ruled out. … Jacobs, speaking about Twitter: “Someone created that platform for people to get their rocks off without getting punched in the mouth.’’
