SIMPLER SIMON IN AFRICA KENYAN SLUM ‘HELL ON EARTH’

‘AMERCIAN Idol” stars Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell spent only three days in Africa together – but you won’t see them joke about it on the show .

“It’s something that I honestly didn’t know how to handle,” says Seacrest of their visit to Kibera, a notorious slum just outside of Nairobi, Kenya that is roughly the size of Central Park and inhabited by more than a million people.

About a month ago, they made the trek to Africa as part of a campaign for African charities on “Idol” late next month.

“I couldn’t get up on that stage and ask people to participate in this without seeing it for myself,” says Seacrest, but he was not prepared for what he saw.

“They’ve got no power, no water and something like 10 to 12 people crammed into huts the size of a small bathroom. The only way to describe that place is as hell on Earth,” he says.
