A possible Molotov cocktail was recovered near the Russian mission to the United Nations in Riverdale last night – and authorities were probing if the device played a role in a suspicious trash fire that erupted there earlier.
Police and FDNY officials said a blaze broke out at 7 p.m. in several garbage cans outside 374 W. 255th St., near Mosholu Avenue, not far from where Russian diplomats assigned to the United Nations reside.
The blaze was extinguished within minutes, sources said.
Afterwards, fire marshals and the NYPD Bomb Squad were dispatched after an apparent incendiary device – a bottle with clear liquid inside and a rag attached – was discovered at the fire scene.
