DAZED AIR CONTROLLERS ‘FUMING’

The skies were clear, but a half-dozen air-traffic controllers on Long Island say they were in a mind fog while directing hundreds of planes last week after toxic fumes seeped into their offices.

Controllers at an FAA facility in Westbury said they were sickened by carbon monoxide on April 28.

A test of one of the facility’s backup generators sent the gas shooting through the ventilation system, leaving some workers disoriented and nauseous for as many as four hours, they said.

Dean Iacopelli, president of the local controllers’ union, said workers’ requests to be relieved were denied.

The FAA did not immediately comment.
