Hobo busted for attacking woman: I’m Denzel Washington

He’s no movie star!

A disheveled homeless man told Port Authority cops he was Denzel Washington when he was arrested Sunday for attacking a woman at a Jersey City Path Train station.

Jimmy Phillips, 46, who bears little resemblance to the Oscar winning actor, insisted for several hours that he was the Training Day star, law enforcement sources said.

Phillips was sitting on a train stopped at the Journal Square station around 8:20 a.m., Sunday, when he sucker punched a 26-year-old woman in the face, cops said.

“She was sitting on the train and he just began shouting at her,” one source said.

A quick-thinking witness snapped a picture of Phillips with her cell phone as he fled and gave it to cops, the source said.

Later the same day at 5:30 p.m. a cop spotted the suspect and nabbed him at the Hoboken station, cops said.

When police took the assailant into custody, Phillips had no identification and insisted he was Denzel Washington, sources added.

Cops didn’t buy it but it took hours for a fingerprint check to reveal the acclaimed actor’s impersonator was a repeat offender with at least seven prior arrests and two outstanding warrants, sources said.

In addition to being charged with assault on the stranger, Phillips was also charged with hindering prosecution for giving a false name, said Port Authority Spokesman Joe Pentangelo.
