The fight between Brooke Astor’s elderly son, Anthony Marshall, and her well-heeled lady-in-waiting, Annette de la Renta, just got nastier.
In court papers made public yesterday, Marshall cited de la Renta’s “mean-spirited and punitive” behavior toward him and her “desire for the prestige of being an administrator” of the estate as reasons she should be booted from the job.
“The appointment of either Annette de la Renta or [financial firm] Chase as a fiduciary would give this unholy alliance further opportunity to shamelessly sensationalize the final years” of Astor, Marshall wrote in his invective-packed filing.
De la Renta and JPMorgan Chase have requested a Westchester judge appoint them administrators of Astor’s $190 million estate.
But Marshall suggested Howard Levine, a former associate state appeals court judge.
De la Renta’s lawyer, Paul Saunders, said his client “has no personal agenda whatsoever except to see that Brooke Astor’s wishes are carried out.”
