MIKE TO WELCOME W. AS WORLD DROPS IN ON UN

Mayor Bloomberg will greet President Bush this afternoon, as world leaders converge on the city for the 63rd meeting of the UN General Assembly.

Discussions are to focus on Kosovo, the conflict in Georgia, the financial tumult on Wall Street and the need to step up aid to impoverished nations.

Bush’s farewell address to the world body is expected to stress the need for other members to join with the United States in confronting such rogue countries as Iran, North Korea and Russia.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in town for the first time since last year’s controversial appearance at Columbia University, vowed yesterday to militarily “break the hand” of any aggressor who targets Iran’s nuclear facilities.
