‘JACK OF ALL FRAUDS’ NABBED IN ‘BOGUS’ WEB BIZ

A Harlem man ran a one-stop Internet shop that sold a dazzling array of illicit items – from counterfeit currency and phony checks to bogus term papers, prosecutors said yesterday.

Among the items Malikim Brown, 36, sold were pirated computer software, offered for pennies on the dollar, said DA Robert Morgenthau.

“The defendant is a jack of all frauds,” said assistant DA Jordan Arnold during Brown’s arraignment.

Brown’s Internet ads were nothing short of sensational. One read “Term Paper Heaven!!!!!” For $10 per page, it promised an “A-grade term paper custom written on your specified topic, completely non plagiarized.”

Many of his ads were on Craigslist, authorities said.

After noticing the computer software ad, an undercover cop gained Brown’s confidence and began purchasing more than $25,000 in counterfeit bills, money orders and certified checks, authorities said.

Officials said 14,000 of the checks were presented overseas, mostly for Internet transactions, with a value of $6.7 million.

Also offered were Social Security cards and completed W-2 tax forms – all of which could be used to obtain government-issued identification, authorities said.

“I’m concerned about terrorists,” said state Supreme Court Justice Louis Bart Stone, who set bail at $500,000 bond or $100,000 cash – in real money.
