BIDEN: TAX IS PATRIOTIC

WASHINGTON – Joe Biden wrapped Old Glory around Barack Obama‘s plan to raise taxes on wealthy Americans, saying the rich should be “patriotic” and fork over more cash.

“It’s time to be patriotic, time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut,” Obama’s running mate said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Obama wants to raise taxes on those earning higher than $250,000, but he proposes tax cuts that he says will benefit 95 percent of Americans.

John McCain‘s running mate, Sarah Palin, ripped Biden at an Ohio rally, saying, “To the rest of America, that’s not patriotism. Raising taxes is about killing jobs and hurting small businesses and making things worse.”

But Biden spokesman David Wade said, “John McCain used to say the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy were immoral. Now he wants to double down on the policies that have dug us a deep hole these last eight years. Joe Biden’s got it right.”

Both candidates’ tax plans would cut taxes and add trillions to the nation’s debt, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.
