WHAT’S UP?

TODAY

SUPERSURPRISE ME: The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is now twice as big as before – the better to let kids play in a giant sandbox, design carnival costumes and get thisclose to a live snake. Celebrate its opening weekend with live shows by Louie! (today at 1 and 3:30 p.m.) and Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band (tomorrow at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.). Come snacktime, you’ll be pleased to know those vending machines have been replaced by the Kids Cafe. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., $5. 145 Brooklyn Ave., at St. Mark’s Avenue; 718-735-4400.

TOMORROW

FALL FOR FREE: Before signing up the kids for dance lessons that are tutu pricey (or simply not their thing), let them try this free ballet lesson at City Center’s Fall for Dance Festival, where kids ages 6 and up will get a leg up on ballet from a teaching fellow from the National Dance Institute. If you like, stick around for the show, which incorporates (guess what?) ballet, as well as hula, hip-hop and more. 1:30 p.m.; performance (tickets $10) at 3 p.m. West 55th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues; 212-581-1212.

DISCO DISCO! GOOD GOOD! Break out the platform shoes for Baby Loves Disco, the afternoon dance party that has kids and parents across the country doing outdated moves to hits from the ’70s and ’80s. Props like swirly scarves and hula hoops help little ones to get into the spirit; parents will appreciate the stroller parking, healthful snacks and changing station. 2 to 5 p.m., $15. Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St., between Thompson and Sullivan streets; 212-505-FISH.
