Yes, a drug dealer murdered his victims with a gun, a hammer and knives, then cut the bodies into pieces and stuffed them in garbage bags – but he did so to defend himself and his family, defense lawyers said yesterday.
Humberto Pepin “did, in fact, kill each of these individuals – but not for the reason the government gave,” attorney David Lewis told jurors during opening arguments.
“We are here not to solve these mystery murders,” he added. “They’re not mysteries; they were solved.”
Pepin, 44, faces the death penalty if convicted.
