The 5 best ‘Mary Poppins’ cover songs

This Friday, audiences will get the chance to go behind the scenes of the beloved classic “Mary Poppins” with “Saving Mr. Banks.” The new movie follows author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) as Walt Disney himself (Tom Hanks) pursues the rights to her books about the “practically perfect” nanny. But while you wait for this spin on one of your favorite films, YouTube is already brimming with many a cover of the original film’s iconic songs. Here are the best “Mary Poppins” song covers out there.

“A Spoonful of Sugar”

Who better to take on the sticky-sweet tune than the modern day Julie Andrews? Kristin Chenoweth performed the piece live at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2001 when Andrews was inducted.

“Feed The Birds”

You know what this dreary classic needs? An up-tempo makeover complete with ukulele! The young lady in the video, Olivia Thompson, gives the song a modern update. Zooey Deschanel will be jealous she didn’t think of it first.

“Chim Chim Cher-ee”

LA-based folk duo Branches puts a moody twist on the greatest song ever written about chimneys. Their haunting rendition will make you long for a Disney covers album by the Civil Wars.

“Let’s Go Fly A Kite”

Singer Rebekah Angel turns the climatic song into a campfire-ready ditty in this acoustic cover. If only Mr. Banks were a ’90s singer-songwriter.

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”

All right, so we cheated. This one isn’t so much “the best” as it is “the absolute worst cover ever that you definitely need to listen to immediately.” K-pop, thank you for existing.
