The under-loved and underappreciated on TV

“Scandal” (Thursday, 10 p.m., ABC)
Who knew getting smashed could transform you into the crowd fave? Long the villainous First Lady, Mellie (Bellamy Young) is suddenly front-and-center – and the most fun character on this series. This week, she opts to do the hard-hitting news interview to soften her image — and what could possibly go wrong with that plan? Back in the Oval, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) continues plotting against the evil Sally Langston (Kate Burton), which finally provides the opportunity to reveal Mellie, Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Cyrus’ back story.

“Bones” (Friday, 8 p.m., Fox)
The bouquet has barely been tossed, and this crime solver is already suffering the post-wedding blues as it moves from its prime Monday spot to the housewife-in-curlers Friday-night dead zone. This week, the interminably earnest Brennan (Emily Deschanel) serves on a jury. The team had a great run, and nine years is a lot to ask of a series – but there comes a point when you have to recognize it’s over. Jury duty may be that point.

Nick Jonas

“Hawaii Five-0” (Friday, 9 p.m., CBS)
Speaking of singing has-beens, Nick Jonas keeps his acting career hopes alive as he plays a computer hacker who infiltrates national security networks.

“Chicago Fire” (Tuesday, 10 p.m., NBC)
Even though the show is a hit by NBC standards and this week’s stellar episode featured a solo Severide (Taylor Kinney) rescuing a kid in an abandoned lot, the fiery series never seems to get the love it deserves. If you’re the type of TV watcher who likes gruesomely horrifying accidents, the upcoming tanker collision with a commuter train, which subsequently crashes into a warehouse, should make for an enjoyable evening.

“CSI” (Wednesday, 10 p.m., CBS)
Police procedurals are beginning to look like the graveyard for one-time singing competition stars. A recent “Law & Order: SVU” episode had Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks, of “American Idol” fame, playing judges on a fake singing show that “The X Factor’s” Carly Rose Soneclar appeared on as a contestant, and now “Idol” season-six winner Jordin Sparks guest stars as a teacher on this veteran crime solver. So far, none of the crooners have been reduced to corpses, but it’s still early in the season.
