Gov suspends NY’s work with ACORN

ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. David Paterson is ordering state agencies to put a 30-day hold on contracts with the community organizing group ACORN and its affiliate New York Agency for Community Affairs.

The Budget Division cites the Democrat’s “continued efforts to ensure fiscal accountability and integrity,” directing the agencies Friday to report any potential issues.

The U.S. Congress has voted to deny federal funds for ACORN in a GOP-led strike against the liberal-leaning group accused last year of submitting some false voter registration forms.

In a video released Monday, ACORN employees in Brooklyn were shown advising a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute to lie about her profession in applying for housing help.

ACORN says it’s naming an independent auditor to review its activities.
