COLUMBIA, SC — Found: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.
The second-term Republican’s staff said late last night he’s hiking on the Appalachian Trail — ending four days of speculation about Sanford’s whereabouts.
The blog site fitsnews reported the married dad-of-four is with a guys-only group that’s previously gone off on similar getaways — including a dove-hunting trip to Argentina last year.
First Lady Jenny Sanford said earlier yesterday she hadn’t spoken with her husband for several days.
“He was writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids,” she said. Not everyone was so forgiving.
“I cannot take lightly that his staff has not had communication with him for more than four days, and that no one, including his family, knows his whereabouts,” said Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer..
He now plans to return to work Wednesday because of all the attention his trip generated.
