HOW SWEEP IT IS! CYCLONES TAKE TWO FROM HATED YANKS

There is joy in Metville once more: The Cyclones swept their two-game, rain-dampened opening weekend series from the hated Staten Island Yankees.

On Friday night, a sellout crowd of 9,284 watched starting picture Collin McHugh keep the Yankees at bay for five innings, and enjoyed a solo shot by returning Cyclone John Servidio as Brooklyn bested Staten Island, 6–2.

Saturday’s game in Staten Island was rained out, and when the series returned to Keyspan Park on Sunday night, rain again played a role. The Cyclones took that game 5–2, though it was called after the top of the sixth due to the downpour.

The Cyclones had gotten on the board with a run in the first, then added four more in the second to vanquish the Yankees.

Sam Honeck provided the big blow, knocking in two with a two-out single in the second, but Servidio was again an offensive star, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice.

Starter Mark Cohoon gave up two runs in his five innings. He also struck out five.

The two wins put the Cyclones on top of the McNamara Division in the New York–Penn League. The hated Yankees are dead last.

True, it is early in the season.
