CLASS POLS BULLY MIKE

Democrats in the do-nothing state Senate yesterday vowed to keep thwarting Mayor Bloomberg’s bid to extend mayoral control of the schools unless City Hall agrees to empower parents and make other concessions.

“We’re going to be the bad guys,” Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) said at a press conference with parents outside City Hall.

“Read my lips: We are not going to pass a bill that doesn’t have parental involvement.”

Sen. Pedro Espada (D-Bronx), who defected to the Republicans before returning to the Democrats, seemed to flip on mayoral control yesterday.

“This is not anti-mayoral control. This is pro-parent,” Espada insisted.

The state Assembly approved continued mayoral control in a 129-18 vote last month, but it can’t become law without a Senate OK.
