Dead Queens 2-year-old’s mother being questioned by police

Police were questioning a Queens mom whose 2-year-old daughter was discovered dead with bruising and broken ribs inside the family’s squalid home, sources said.

Authorities found little Kevasia Edwards unconscious and unresponsive inside the home on Beach 56th Place in Arverne at around 11:30 p.m. Monday, flat on her back with her mouth agape.

The tot’s panicked mom, Ashley Diaz, frantically begged neighbors for help before police arrived to find good Samaritans performing CPR on the child.

“I checked her pulse but I didn’t feel any,” said neighbor LaToya Murphy, 26.

The child was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Diaz told investigators she was potty-training her daughter when she fell and hit her head, sources said. She was being questioned by police at the 101st Precinct station house Tuesday evening.
