‘Seinfeld’ reunion most TiVo’d Super Bowl ad

It seems people still love the show about nothing.

The “Seinfeld” reunion was the most re-watched commercial in the Super Bowl, according to digital recording company TiVO. The ad which was commissioned by Fox network and promoted Seinfeld’s web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” lit up TiVo boxes last night.

The ad was aimed at providing viewers with a New York connection to the Super Bowl but was not paid for by either the comedian or by Sony which airs the series on Crackle, according to reports.

Meanwhile the half time show which starred Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers rated more popular with viewers than the game overall, according to a TiVo report out Monday morning.

While appearing in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl is a risky business, it didn’t stop Budweiser’s “Puppy Love,” from being the most rewatched paid commercial. The ad also won USA Today’s annual ad meter. Go Daddy’s “Body Builder,” also a fourth quarter ad came in second in TiVo’s rankings.

Separately, broadcaster Fox ran a lot less promos than CBS did last year; Fox ran 28 promotional spots while CBS aired 48 the year before. More advertisers chose to run sixty second spots during the game, with 20 spots airing this year versus 14 last year.

Meanwhile Twitter reports on its blog this morning that the game generated 24.9 million tweets just slightly ahead of last year’s 24.1 million.

While the game may have been a damp squib, Super Bowl advertisers managed to win some major buzz by teasing their spots online beforehand.

Analytics firm iSpot reports that the pre-released teasers and ad spots generated 130 million video views across multiple video platforms including YouTube. Anheuser-Busch-created spots generated 49 million of those views, according to iSpot data provided ahead of the game.
