A former high-school-football phenom who had dreams of playing in the NFL was busted yesterday for taking part in a brutal, gunpoint home invasion on Long Island, cops said.
Jason Gwaltney, 25, of Brentwood, allegedly served as the getaway driver for four other accomplices who broke into an occupied home in Huntington at 1:20 a.m. and demanded cash from the victims, officials said.
The former West Virginia University recruit — who scored a remarkable 135 touchdowns at North Babylon HS — allegedly drove the 2001 Lincoln to the residence and acted as lookout with another man, sources said.
Gwaltney’s promising career fizzled with the Mountaineers after off-field problems and boozing caused him to leave the school.
Gwaltney and his cohorts were hit with burglary and weapons charges. All five will be arraigned today in Central Islip.
