Sandy prop. tax outrage

Sandy nearly destroyed his home — and now the city is jacking up his property taxes.

Staten Islander Robert Raimondi, 55, was stunned last week when the city sent him a notice that despite the storm, the city’s assessment of his property had climbed.

The higher assessment helped boost his yearly tax bill by more than $200, from $1,572 to $1,720

“It makes no sense when the house isn’t even worth what it was prior to the storm,” he said.

Raimondi’s Midland Beach home — which suffered approximately $80,000 in damage — jumped in value from $347,000 to $356,000.
