Bronx super gets jail time for dog fighting and cruelty

A Bronx building superintendent was sentenced today to 1 to 3 years behind bars for conducting dogfights and creating a doggie den of horrors.

Raul Sanchez, 59, stood emotionless during the brief hearing at Bronx Criminal Court. Sanchez was arrested June 21 after a raid at his Sherman Avenue basement where investigators found 47 abused dogs and an array of dog fighting breeding and training equipment.

Seventeen of the dogs were euthanized after the raid. He pled guilty to animal cruelty, criminal possession of a weapon and other charges last month in the plea deal.
