Millions of Americans skipping lunch to work: study

Hurry up and eat. Or, better yet, skip lunch to work.

That’s what millions of Americans are now doing, according to a recent study.

An OfficeTeam survey found that about half of workers take 30 minutes or less on their lunch hour, while 29 percent just keep working through lunch.

“A big part of what we’re talking about is, what constitutes lunch? A lot of people are staying connected and continue to be productive even on lunch break,” says Daryl Pigat, office manager of OfficeTeam’s Wall Street office.

That is in stark contrast to the case in European countries where it is the norm to take several hours for lunch.

“Many workers are just very goal-oriented. They want to be constantly getting things done,” Pigat noted.

He also believes fears about losing a job in a bad economy are factoring into why some workers can’t stop working when they should be munching. Gregory Bresiger
