Does this ‘Idol’ star fit N.C.’s political mold?

Former “American Idol” star Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress, according to a report in the Washington Blade.

Aiken, a Democrat, is considering mounting a challenge to Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican, in North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district.
A source said Aiken is “sounding and acting like a candidate,” according to the report.

Aiken, 35, finished second to Ruben Studdard on the second season of “Idol” in 2003. He came out as gay in September 2008 and has been outspoken on gay rights issues.
