John Sterling to be voice of the ‘Kitten Bowl’

John Sterling is best known for turning the names of Yankees players into catch phrases. Now, he will have to do the same thing — for cats.

The colorful Yankees radio play-by-play man is set to emcee the first-ever “Kitten Bowl,” which will take place at Yankee Stadium in the hours leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. Sterling will co-host with Beth Stern, the wife of Howard Stern.

The “Kitten Bowl,” billed as the “greatest feline showdown in cable television history” by the Hallmark Channel, which will broadcast the event, will consist of two preliminary playoffs and a championship match. There will be obstacle courses as well as “clever locker room strategies” and “player profiles.” Famous cats from YouTube and Instagram will provide “analysis” and “color commentary.”

The “Kitten Bowl” will be held in association with the North Shore Animal League, and all kittens — 60-70 are said to be participating — will be adopted following the event.
