Turner’s bad leg OK for Mets opener

After a spring filled with injuries and setbacks, the Mets managed to get a bit of positive news yesterday.

Justin Turner ran the bases without a problem at the team’s voluntary workout at Citi Field, and was able to avoid opening the season on the disabled list.

“I think he’s going to be all right,” manager Terry Collins said yesterday after Turner tested the left calf he strained in a Grapefruit League game last week against the Astros.

Zach Lutz, who was brought to New York in case Turner wasn’t ready, was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas to clear a spot for Turner.

“It’s been a long spring and we’re glad to be out o

f Florida,” Collins said. “We’re coming up a little lighter than we thought.”

* Despite battling his own health issues, David Wright proclaimed himself ready go for the opener.

“I feel good physically,” Wright said. “It would have been nice to have a few more at-bats at the end [of spring training], but I didn’t have that luxury. I thought being pain-free was more important.”

Collins was just happy to have him in one piece.

“David didn’t get the at-bats we wanted but he looks fine and [Daniel Murphy] looks fine.”

With the return of those infielders, Collins said the “roster we planned this winter is goingo to be intact.”

Well, except for Johan Santana.

“We like what we’re going to put on the field tomorrow,” Collins said. “We’re going to play the game the right way.”

* Even though yesterday’s workout was optional, every player showed up — though Jordany Valdespin was late.
