What’s the deal on immig!

WASHINGTON — Not so fast, Chuck.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) yesterday threw cold water on reports that immigration reform was a done deal after Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) brokered an agreement between big labor and big business.

“Reports that the bipartisan group of eight senators have agreed on a legislative proposal are premature,” cautioned Rubio, one of the eight working on reforms to improve border security and give illegal aliens a path to citizenship.

Still, Rubio hailed the “substantive progress” made, including Schumer’s breakthrough on a deal on wages for low-skilled workers in industries such as hospitals, hotels, restaurants and landscaping.

Schumer said whether an immigration deal was final or close was “semantics.”

“Every major policy issue has been resolved,” he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

A full Senate vote could come in May.
