TV’s record NFL weekend

While Green Bay was hitting record cold temperatures on Sunday, its match-up between the Packers and San Francisco 49ers was reaching its own record ratings.

The NFC Wild Card game — which saw the Niners win it with a last-second field goal — drew a record 47.1 million viewers on Fox, making it the highest rated Wild Card playoff game on any network since 1988. It was also the most-watched telecast since last year’s Super Bowl.

On Saturday, NBC’s Wild Card games averaged 31 million viewers tuning in for the Saints-Eages and Colts-Chiefs games, up 14 percent from last year.

The Saints’ final-play victory over the Eagles drew 34.4 million viewers — ranking as the most-watched Saturday Wild Card game ever.
