Snee’s knee ‘very sore,’ but serious injury avoided

Chris Snee’s ailing knee doesn’t feel very good at the moment, but the valuable starting right guard did not suffer a serious injury when he was forced out in the second quarter of the 31-24 victory over the Cowboys.

Snee underwent an MRI test yesterday and Tom Coughlin said Snee has a hyper-flexion of the knee and that “Chris is very, very sore.”

The pain and stiffness will have to calm down during the week in order for Snee to make his 77th consecutive regular-season start Sunday against the Eagles.

“It’s just going to have to be a day-to-day type thing,” Coughlin said.

EAGLES’ JACKSON, WESTBROOK COULD PLAY

A hyper-flexion of the knee occurs when there is a direct blow to the back of the thigh with the leg planted in the ground, often stretching the posterior cruciate ligament. The blow causes flexion of the knee beyond its normal range.

Backup Kevin Boothe replaced Snee and played the entire second half. Coughlin said Boothe, “did a good job. He has done a good job whenever called upon to come in and fill a spot.”

The Giants want Cowboys LT Flozell Adams suspended for pushing Justin Tuck in the back on the last play of the first half. The Giants didn’t even need to send the NFL a tape of the play because when Coughlin called, vice president of officiating Mike Pereira said he had already reviewed the incident.

Tuck has a history with Adams and it’s not good. Tuck suffered a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder after Adams tripped him in the second game of the season. Adams was fined $12,500 for that penalty and also for kicking Osi Umenyiora in that game, and the Giants believe he should be suspended for this latest transgression.

“That is not for me to decide,” Coughlin said. “I think that there is no place in our game for the act that he took.”

Adams was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and referee Bill Leavy announced that the Giants had declined the penalty. That is not correct, as the half was over and, according to NFL rules, “If there is a foul by the offense, there shall be no extension of the period.”

DE Mathias Kiwanuka in his first start filling in for demoted Osi Umenyiora had a strong game with six tackles, a team-high three hits on Tony Romo and one forced fumble on Marion Barber.

“If somebody hands you the keys to a Ferrari you step on the gas,” Kiwanuka said. “You don’t ask any questions. That’s what I wanted to do.”
