Ramsay casting for new series, ‘Idol’ of home cooks

Gordon Ramsay is trying to cast yet another cooking show — this one for amateur chefs who “cook well despite never having been formally trained.”

In other words, a sort of “American Idol” for the pots-and-pans set.

An open casting call for the show, to be called “Master Chef,” went up over the weekend. The show is already well known in Britain and Australia.

Producers are staging auditions in 12 cities around the country starting in early January.

The New York try-outs are set for a restaurant in Manhasset, Long Island, Sur La Table, on Jan. 10.

“We will NOT be considering professional chefs who work in professional kitchens!,” the notice warns.

Contestants in Ramsay’s other cooking competition show, “Hell’s Kitchen,” are usually professionals at the beginnings of their careers.
