PA cop saves George Washington Bridge jumper

A Port Authority cop saved a distraught woman who had climbed over the outer railing of the George Washington Bridge on Monday and was preparing to leap, PA police said.

Port Authority Police Officer Christopher Outhouse made the save.

PA Officer Christopher Outhouse made the lucky grab after a bridge security guard, Johnny Vasquez, spotted the woman at about 11:45 a.m. as she was leaning over the south roadway’s upper level near the Manhattan tower and radioed for help.

Outhouse pulled up in his police car near the woman, got out and climbed over the inner railing to get nearer to her as she stood on the lower rung of the rail with her torso extended over the water, a PA police spokesman said.

As the officer approached, the woman tried to run toward the Manhattan side of the bridge, but the officer caught her, the spokesman said.

The 5-foot-2, 130-pound woman, who lives in Manhattan, had several prescriptions to treat bipolar disorder and depression and texted messages about her plan to kill herself and alluded to a past attempt through a drug overdose.

She was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
