SHIA A TOTALED DRUNK: COPS

Mutt was a boozy mess.

Shia LaBeouf, who starred as motorcycle-riding greaser Mutt Williams in the new “Indiana Jones” adventure, was busted for misdemeanor drunken driving after he rolled his car in a two-vehicle smashup in Hollywood early yesterday, cops said.

Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies said LaBeouf made a left turn and collided with an oncoming car at about 2:30 a.m. at La Brea and Fountain avenues. The actor’s Ford F-150 pickup truck then rolled over, authorities said.

LaBeouf badly hurt his left hand and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for surgery, according to Sgt. Kristin Aloma of the sheriff’s West Hollywood station.

The young actor’s passenger and the other driver, both women, were treated for minor injuries and released.

LaBeouf, 22, “was exhibiting obvious signs of intoxication,” Aloma said.

The actor was cited for misdemeanor drunken driving instead of felony drunken driving because the injuries suffered by the others were minor, she said.

“Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles,” the actor’s rep Melissa Kates said in a statement.

“Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of ‘Transformers 2’ within one month.”

LaBeouf has been a bad boy before.

He was nabbed in November in a Chicago Walgreens store after he refused several requests by a security guard to leave. The trespassing charge was later dropped.

He told David Letterman on “The Late Show,” “Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping . . . it’s just as bad.”

Despite his age, LaBeouf has been a working actor for a decade.

He recently described what it was like growing up amid the “hippie lifestyle” of parents Jeffrey LaBeouf and Shayna Saide, who later divorced.

But it was his own idea to take on acting after he saw a friend perform in 1993 on the TV series “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.”

According to imdb.com, he began his search for an agent in the Yellow Pages, called one up and did a stand-up routine on the spot. With Post Wire Services
