LARRY LEAVES DEVIL BENCH

Hall of Famer Larry Robinson will not return to the Devils’ bench as assistant coach next season, GM Lou Lamoriello told The Post yesterday.

“It was his [choice],” Lamoriello said. “He did it for one year because we asked him to do it with Brent Sutter coming in.”

Lamoriello said Robinson will revert to his previous post as a special assignment coach.

Lamoriello said John MacLean and Tommy Albelin would comprise the team’s assistants.

Lamoriello also said he views free-agent signee Fedor Fedorov as a top competitor for a spot among the team’s forwards.

“Without question, we feel he has the ability to play in the NHL. It’s up to him, though,” Lamoriello said of Sergei Fedorov’s brother.

Fedorov is suspended by the International Ice Hockey Federation from international competitions, with the Russian Kontinental League claiming his rights, though Fedorov says his contract is done.
