THE YANKS WISE UP

A little sunshine, if you will, is all that it took to end a bone-headed fan shake down at Yankee Stadium.

Yesterday, hours after The Post reported that stadium security guards were now confiscating fans’ sunblock, Yankee officials scrapped the scheme.

The club had claimed that it was enforcing this heretofore-unannounced ban as an “anti-terrorism” measure. The fact that tiny 1-ounce bottles of sunscreen were available for $5 inside the stadium was irrelevant, right?

What’s next? Pay toilets?

Now, fans understand that A-Rod & Co. – perennial runners- up though they’ve been of late – con- stitute a big payroll.

But enough is enough.

The Yankees give a lot to New York – but they get a lot back, too.

Such as the $900 million in tax-subsidized bonds already OK’d for the construction of the new Yankee Stadium.

(And don’t forget the $350 million more that the club requested last month to help offset cost over runs that have driven the price of the project from $1 billion to $1.3 billion.)

Generous? Sure is.

A sound investment, too.

A word to the wise, though: Good will, once lost, is hard to regain.
