FOR DECADES OF INK . . . READERS THANK SMITH

I am shocked and saddened that you will no longer be publishing Liz Smith’s column (“I’ll Miss You, NYC!” Liz Smith, Feb. 26).

It’s a sad day for The Post.

Smith invented the now-omnipresent form of celebrity and “gossip” reporting, and she still does it with more style, class and wit than anyone else on the planet.

Shame on you for letting Smith go.

Smith has been one of the best parts of NYC newspapers for 33 years.

Her column was the first page I used to turn to. It doesn’t matter that I now live in Orlando; I always read her online.

Everyone should get together and send Smith around the world for 80 days.

She deserves that and more.

It is with astounding concern, disappointment and disbelief that I am protesting the poor decision to drop Smith’s fine column.

What a dreadful mistake.

Smith is an icon and a large part of why I and innumerable others purchase your paper over others in this news-crazy world.

Smith brings reason, class, tradition and skilled intuition to her work.

You are mad to let go of Smith.

She is the soul of your newspaper – a New York voice that loves New York and is loved back.

Smith’s column on the Academy Awards was the best coverage I read.

I will miss her.

How could you let Smith go? She has given her best to your company for so many years.

What about employer loyalty?
