REPORT: FAVRE WILL HAVE SURGERY

Brett Favre will have surgery this week to repair a torn tendon in his throwing arm, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The paper writes, “Surgery to release the tendon is considered routine and is expected to be performed by [Dr. James] Andrews later this week. Rehabilitation for Favre would be six to eight weeks.

“If it goes well, Farve, who will turn 40 in October, is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.”

Favre will meet with Andrews on Tuesday, according to the paper.

Favre retired from the Jets in February, when it was revealed he played the end of last season with the injury. It was said then if he were to play again, surgery would be needed.

Favre seemed reluctant to have the surgery to return. However, since asking the Jets to formally release him after last month’s NFL Draft, reports of the quarterback returning to play for the Vikings have been constant.

The Jets released Favre and therefore will not receive any type of compensation if he plays again.

Conflicting reports about meetings with Vikings coach Brad Childress and Andrews have clouded the story, but this report seems to point to a certain return by the former Packers QB.

It has been speculated that Favre wishes to play for the Vikings to trouble Packers GM Ted Thompson, who seemingly engineered Favre’s departure from Green Bay before the 2007 season.
