DRAMATIC RESCUE ON THE HUDSON

The crew of a ferry plucked four people from the Hudson last night after their boat overturned.

The New York Waterway boat Admiral Richard Bennis was making a regular commuter run from Ossining to Haverstraw at around 8:30 p.m. when Capt. Kurt Hansen noticed the stricken boat and the people trying to stay afloat in the dark, choppy waters.

Making the situation worse, two of the boaters were not wearing lifejackets, according to Waterway spokesman Pat Smith.

Realizing quick action was needed, a deckhand, Tom Lennane, jumped to action as the Bennis reached the boaters.

He signaled them to grab onto the ferry’s ladder, and then lifted them to safety.

None of the boaters was injured. All of them were taken to Ossining.
