Knicks’ Jeffries fears bad injury

Jared Jeffries pulled himself out of the game yesterday, missing the entire second half with what the Knicks called a hyperextended right knee, and the forward is fearful he may have a serious knee injury and has an MRI exam scheduled for this morning.

Jeffries, the Knicks’ defensive glue, said his knee has hurt for two weeks.

“I got hit again, and it started to feel worse and worse,” Jeffries said after the Knicks’ 106-104 loss to the Raptors. “I want to see what’s going on.”

The Knicks can ill afford to lose Jeffries for an extended period. Jeffries has lost significant parts of two seasons — once with a fractured wrist and last season with a broken leg. Jeffries is also the lone chance of them opening up more cap space via trade.
